MEN'S MINISTRY IN THE MBA

Men’s Ministry happens at the local church level across the MBA. What these men’s ministries look like varies from church to church but they all exist to build community, enable discipleship and bring glory to God.

OAKBANK BAPTIST CHURCH

00:05
all right hello welcome to the red river my name’s Steve Burke i’m here with Norm Nachtigall and Lloyd Smith at the end there together we run the men’s ministry at Oak Bank Baptist Church we have what i would call a fairly strong and committed brotherhood of of men both younger and older we have about a group of about 40 or 50 that meet about three

00:28
four or five times a year for breakfast. We have a good rotation of men that share a devotional with the group every time. In addition to meeting for breakfast, we also have a few other events scattered throughout the year and it’s only fitting that we’re talking to you from an ice fishing tent. We have an annual canoe trip that draws about 10 to 20 guys depending on the year.

00:52
We also meet once a year at someone’s backyard for wiener roast, a couple hot dogs. And the highlight of our ministry is a big fish fry that usually draws between 60 and 70 guys. We eat more fish than we probably should, eat more fries than we should, but we have a good time and we all smell nicely afterwards. So, Norm, I’ll start with you. How are you involved in men’s ministry?

01:18
Probably the newest member of the leadership crew there. Somebody stepped aside to get involved with other ministries. So they asked me and I accepted. A lot of times it’s just the planning. Steve a lot of times takes the lead on many things. Kind of keeps us in line. And then again if I need to find a speaker for one of the men’s breakfasts for helping out flipping pancakes or

01:48
organizing the people to to fry up the sausages and butter the toast and all of that that’s where I get involved wherever I’m needed Lloyd what about you what do you do for men’s ministry

02:04
uh i’ll call myself i’m a behind the scenes guy i’m not a front and centre type person i leave that for Steve to handle but any of the events that we have stuff that needs organizing stuff picked up coordinating i do a lot of behind the scene work getting everything ready so that day of event we have all the stuff we need ready to go and i just plug in wherever i’m needed to make sure we get things done nice it’s a great bunch of guys to work with and it just makes the job a whole lot easier

02:33
So what does men’s ministry mean to you?

02:36
What does men’s ministry mean to me? In some avenues, it’s the fellowship with the guys we’ve got. It’s growing together as one in Christ. The outreach, we always encourage the men to bring friends, family, neighbours to our events. So I look at it as an overall picture, just reaching out to not just the men of the church, but the men of the community and giving them the opportunity to learn more about God.

03:05
Nice, nice. Norm, how about you? How is it building meaningful relationships towards discipleships?

03:14
uh because of the diversity that we have in the attendees we’ve got everything from 80 year olds showing up to our events it’s right down to five or six year olds right so in terms of discipleship they get to see the interaction of of sort of the young men and the older men and their interaction there we get to see how the young people interact amongst themselves they get to see that full interaction with the

03:44
the discipleship portion of it any of the events that we do have we have devotionals right so they get they get to be involved in that and and comment on that so I think that’s that’s where the strength of the group is everybody

04:01
gets to see it outside of sort of a Sunday morning quick in and out rate. You’ve got to race to this thing, race to that thing. So it’s just kind of a relaxed atmosphere where there’s a wide variety of attendees. Yeah, I find that too. We have a really comfortable atmosphere at all our events. Everybody feels comfortable. They’re

04:25
everybody’s willing to share. And, um, uh, it’s a, it’s a really strong group of, a really strong group of men. Um, and that’s, that’s kind of what it means to me too. Uh, I’m happy to be part of it. Um, you know, I got a great, uh, great group of guys here. Um, anyway, thank you for letting us, uh, uh, share what our ministry is about at Oak Bank Baptist and, looking forward to seeing how the rest of this morning goes. Thank you. Thank you. Take care. God bless.

GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH

00:00

00:28

The Bible study as well. It’s a plus. But just getting together with a group of guys just makes the end of the week nice. And I really appreciate being together.

00:57
